About Ryanair DAC
As Europe’s largest low-cost airline, Ryanair is known for its extremely dense point-to-point route network and cheap ticket prices. The airline serves numerous secondary airports and flies to holiday and city destinations across Europe. As the fleet is extremely tightly scheduled and the aircraft only have very short ground times, even minimal delays in the morning can lead to massive delays on all subsequent flights of the day.

Flight delay with Ryanair: Enforcing your right to compensation
When am I entitled to a payment for a Ryanair delay?
You are entitled to compensation if you arrive at your destination at least three hours after the scheduled time. Because Ryanair often lands at airports that are further out, the time lost for passengers is particularly noticeable. We check exactly for you whether the delay is for operational reasons or justified by extraordinary circumstances.
How high is my compensation payment?
In Germany, your claims expire after three years at the end of the year. We recommend reporting the case immediately, as Ryanair removes operational logs from the system quickly.

Ryanair and "extraordinary circumstances"
Ryanair often cites external factors in response to complaints. However: Technical faults with the aircraft fleet or internal personnel problems are no excuse for non-payment.

Flight cancellation with Ryanair: Your rights regarding cancellations
When am I entitled to compensation?
If Ryanair cancels your flight at short notice less than 14 days before the scheduled departure date, you are entitled to a flat-rate compensation of up to €600 under the EU Passenger Rights Regulation. This applies primarily if you were not offered an equivalent replacement flight that would get you to your destination at almost the same time.
Compensation vs. ticket refund
It is important to understand that these are two completely different claims that you can assert in parallel with Ryanair. The ticket refund is simply the repayment of the flight price for a service that Ryanair did not provide due to the cancellation. Compensation, on the other hand, is a lump-sum payment for the time lost and the inconvenience caused by the short-notice cancellation. You therefore have the right to both reclaim your money for the ticket and demand the compensation amount (up to €600 depending on the flight route) if the airline did not announce the flight in good time.
Should I accept a rebooking by Ryanair?
Yes, you can accept alternative transportation to reach your destination – this usually does not reduce your claim for compensation. Caution: Avoid the offer of travel vouchers at the counter or in the app. These are often linked to a waiver of your statutory cash compensation. You have the right to standard transportation or a cash payout instead of vouchers.

Missed connecting flight because of Ryanair
If you miss a connecting flight within a single booking due to a Ryanair delay, you are entitled to compensation if you arrive at your final destination more than three hours late. Ryanair must also rebook you onto the next available flight free of charge and provide meals during the waiting time.
Overbooking with Ryanair: Denied boarding
If you are denied boarding against your will because Ryanair has overbooked the flight, you are immediately entitled to statutory compensation. In addition, you have the right to choose between a ticket refund or prompt replacement transport, as well as necessary assistance at the airport.
When does Ryanair not have to pay compensation?
No claim in extraordinary circumstances
Ryanair is exempt from payment if the cancellation was caused by circumstances such as extreme weather, security risks or strikes by external service providers that are outside the airline’s control.
Ryanair often wrongly invokes this
Airlines often try to present operational problems such as technical defects on the aircraft or internal staff shortages as “extraordinary”. This is generally legally impermissible; such incidents are part of Ryanair’s normal operational risk and are therefore subject to compensation.
